Smooth and with a bit of "bite"
- I like a fairly smooth paper, but with a bit of a bite. Bristol, while good gor pen & ink, just does not suit me as well as a soft, smooth, toothy paper. But white is not necessaryl. I love to draw with pencil, conte and charcoal on colored papers.

Plate Finish Strathmore 500
- I prefer Plate Finish Strathmore 500 series bristol for finished works, its super smooth but not quite to the point of being slick. Absolutely no tooth or grain whatsoever.

Bainbridge Board
- It is not cheap, but I like the hard surface. It holds fine lines and shading very well indeed. I use hot pressed Bainbridge most of the time, at least for anything that I think will be good to frame.
