Hatching the Brick Textures

Using very light pencil guidelines to mark out brickwork, hatch the brick textures using a waterproof ink. You don't have to draw every single brick: Draw more detail in the closer areas, and allow the the density to fade out in open areas. Hatch very strong darks but leave your mid-tones. Resist the temptation to outline - remember that the wash will add values and define edges.

Alternatively, stippling looks effecting though it is time consuming. stippling dark bricks particularly so, though it needn't be if you are sketching and take an informal approach to it, while stippling the mortar for light-coloured bricks is a little faster.
