Peter has used a really light touch with this drawing, keeping the shading energetic and informal, which I think works particularly well for the subject. Notice how he has resisted outlining the light colored foliage and water, instead working into the darks and bringing them 'up to' the edge of the light shapes, a process called 'reserving the lights' (as opposed to erasing them). He has also used a lot of really nice mark-making, letting the pencil marks show and not blending or smudging, an approach which I personally like a lot.
