Peter said "It is my first drawing for quite a few years and I have enjoyed doing it. Imagining that I was working out doors I sketched quite rapidly to try and capture as much of the scene quickly because of the changeable light. I made some corrections over a few days but I did not want to copy the original photograph in too much detail."
Guide Comment: I really like the informal mark-making in this drawing. Note how Peter has used strong, directional shading to quickly sketch in the form, and rather than outlining the light areas of foliage on top of the bridge, he uses negative drawing, drawing the foliage behind it, and just making the slightest of 'suggestions' where the background is lighter. Horizontal shading in the reflection helps to suggest the ripples in the water.
