When a drafting brush (or substitute) is used in conjunction with a cleaning pad, you can keep your drawings clean and smudge free.

Document Dry Cleaning pads like the one shown are designed to release a grit-free powder that absorbs dirt and other debris from your drawings and allows them to be brushed away without streaking. It can be use on polyester, film, cloth, vellum and papers.

Dry cleaning pads quickly become very dirty if you try to use them like an eraser. Rather you should shake or squeeze them to release some of the powdered eraser onto the drawing surface, then, using a rag over your fingertips, gently roll the particles over the drawing in a circular motion so that they pick up the graphite. You can then brush the particles away. Powdered eraser is also available in a shaker can.
