At this stage of the horse drawing, we begin to develop the outline. I start erasing the shapes underneath and joining lines to create the horse's outline. Here I try to relate aspects of the drawing to other parts - this can help you to judge whether you've got things lined up correctly and the proportions are right. For instance, the top rail of the fence meets the base of the horse’s ears.

And you can even do your subject a favor when you're drawing, to show them in the best light - at this stage we can use a bit of artist's license, to correct rider faults and make a more attractive and desirable form over the fence!
