Pet Photography - Don't Use Flash

The camera flash, especially up close, floods the subject with light, flattening the tones, leaving you few shadows with which to model the form. The eyes look unnatural and even if it isn't as bad as this kitty's eyes, the highlights will be in the center of the pupil, when really you want them to the side. You could create a reasonable drawing based on this photo, buy you'd need to use a great deal of artistic license.
