After I'd done a blind contour drawing of them, a contour drawing seemed like a logical next step. Drawing old shoes is a favorite of mine - the more worn and mis-shapen the better. Curled leather and tangled laces make for great line drawings, I think. This one is done with a basic finepoint pen on the back of cheap watercolor paper. (The front was too rough). Its pretty simple, and the shapes certainly aren't accurate, but its a reasonable impression of my beaten-up old summer sandals.
