Artist Statement: Currently in the middle of a 'get-fit' campaign, I walk everywhere, and miles and miles (or should I say kilometers?). One of my favorite walks is at my local beach. On these walks I bird watch, and collect stuff - mainly shiny things like feathers, shells, beetle casings etc. Eventually, they all end up in a drawing. This is a shell found not long back on the beach - at some stage I hope to expand it into a more complete work. I have just started to re-introduce a bit of color back into my work, and this study is a result of experimenting with mixing various media with graphite pencil.
Guide Comment: I'm always interested to see the adventurous ways that Linda combines media in her work. In my abstract pieces, I've always used materials in an adventurous way, but when doing realistic drawing, I tend to be a purist. Linda's work shows that a creative approach to obtaining the effect you want can work just as well in a realist context. Small studies, like this lovely, glimmering shell, are an excellent way to develop skills while creating a self-contained, finished piece.
