Eye Drawing - Using a Reference

eye reference photoS. Pace, licensed to About.com, Inc.
When drawing eyes, begin with a reference - either a photo, a mirror or a friend. You can use as much artistic license as you like, but it really helps to see exactly what a real eye looks like.

Here is the photo that I am using for a reference. I chose it because it is very clear. It's of a baby's eye, which has less heavy shadowing than an adult's eye, and clearer whites. This lovely photo was taken by Shannah Pace.
