Artist's Statement: I chose this subject as I just loved how she discovered the
water stopper on the tub and then how surprise she was when she saw herself. I
chose graphite because I really like monochromatic art. Graphite can be so
versatile and I was trying to push the darks and lights in this drawing.
Guide Comment: Notice how Tracey has resisted the temptation to outline the baby's hands - in places the edges are very faint, almost dissapearing into the paper. She has also handled the fingernails very delicately, so that they look natural, not harshly outlined. The dark shadows under the hands make those sections more defined and they seem to jump off the paper, while the strong contrast and dark tones in the reflected image draws our attention to it.
