Definition: A tetraptych is picture in four parts. Often the component pieces of a tetraptych form a single image, divided as though seen through window-panes, but they may also be a connected group of separate images. Tetraptych is not a commonly used format in painting and drawing, the diptych and triptych being more popular.
The word tetraptych comes from the Greek root tetra, meaning four, and diptykha, 'fold'.
