Sketch of the Day - January 5 2006

I'd been speaking with a reader about the historical roots of Japanese animation, so I decided to have a go at drawing a simple Manga character based on a historical figure. I'll gladly admit that I'm no Mangaka, but there's something about the aesthetics of Japanese cartoons that can be really attractive. I'm kinda happy with this drawing, it has a reasonably solid feel for a quick sketch, three-dimensional, with something of the character's personality showing. Just because you're not an expert at something doesn't mean you can't have fun with it, right?
