This detail of 'Lion Stretching' allows a slightly closer look at the fur texture. Note the use of 'negative space' drawing, whith the drawing of dark shadows behind the light fur - the light fur is the white of the paper, left blank. Accurate observation of shadows creates a lifelike feel - shadows are an important clue to three-dimensional form. Also note the good range of tonal value, from black in the nostrils and darkest shadows, through mid-tones to lighter values and highlights.
