Graham writes: I have been drawing and sketching for around 18 month’s and have concentrated on portrait drawing for the last 2 month’s.
This has probably been my best attempt so far, prior to this I had only tackled portraits of a subject’s head, this study of Colleen had the additional challenge of her upper body aswell. There were certain aspects of the drawing I found difficult, eg. Her nose – I probably spent two hours getting the nose and mouth right. I have found that patience is very important; it is tempting to give up if something isn’t going quite to plan. It’s always worth sticking with it, it often turns out ok in the end and the results are really satisfying.
Although the drawing is not quite complete, I am delighted with the result and has inspired me to continue with portraiture.
