Action poses are important in manga - whether it's contemporary highschool sports or a fantasy with swordfights, you need to show you characters in action. Don't try to draw from memory or guess what something should look like - you need references. If you have a large mirror, you can do poses yourself and observe how things should look. Or team up with a friend to act out action sequences and take photographs. Try using interesting camera angles to add drama - having a character tower imposingly over a low-set camera, or a 'birds eye' view from a balcony.
