Candle Flames - Basic Line Drawings

basic line drawings
Here is an example of three simplified candle drawings. The first one is a basic flame in still air. With a slight current of air, the candle moves. The third drawing adds some more naturalistic detail, suggesting the changing color in the center of the flame, and adding some dripping wax. With drawings like these, it is important to keep your line fluid and casual. A black pen gives a nice definite line. Practice a few times on rough paper - the still, symmetrical flame can be surprisingly difficult to get right.
