| Artist Statement: I have always wanted to learn to draw and the past two years i have been practicing often..I have amazed myself at how far I have come all by myself with no help from anyone..this sketch is of my lil pup i got in January..He is very special to the family..I hope to someday be able to draw great portraits and love using my own dogs and family for subjects |
| Guide Comment: This is a nicely done drawing, though I must say, its a bit too cute for my taste! I also feel that heads look better with bodies attached - the disembodied head it a little bit odd. However, you've done well to get a good tonal value range and the eyes are terrific. I find those wiry hairs on terriers pretty hard to draw, but you're on the right track, lifting out highlights with the eraser and using a 'negative' drawing - drawing the shadows in behind the light hairs. Sometimes I find it helps to have a background when drawing a light-colored animal, so that you have some contrast to light fur. |
