| Artist Statement: I am 38, female and from Australia. I have recently started drawing again after a 10 year break, otherwise called motherhood..*grin*. This is my first venture into the portrait world and I am loving it thus far. There is so much detail in a face, its a challenge that I am thoroughly enjoying. I hope you enjoy my work and please feel free to critique it, as I said, I am just learning about drawing portraits and I am sure I have massive amounts to learn. This drawing was inspired by a photo I took of my friend.

| Guide Comment: G'day Cloudygal - nice to hear from a fellow Aussie. You've done a really nice job of the skintones - they are very even and subtly shaded. You seem to have had a bit of trouble with the nose - I feel there should be a bit of the right (her left) nostril showing. Noses are tricky - its a good idea to have a look at the anatomy of the nose (understanding how the cartilages of the nose are shaped helps a lot) and practice it from many angles. I'm not too sure about the eyes - the pupils are a little irregular - you might want to check their alignment. Sometimes you need to use a little artist's licence with highlights and shadows in the eyes: a shadow just under the upper lashes, and a highlight that curves across into the pupil, can help make the eyes look three-dimensional and sparkling. You have a good eye for detail, shown in your handling of the hair and the touch of reflected light under the chin. Its a lovely pose and a simple, strong composition. Good stuff.
