Simple looped flowers occur early in the development of a childs visual vocabulary, so are common in adult doodling they are a familiar motif. Flowers are often drawn by women, but should not be interpreted as effeminate if drawn by men. In some faiths the Lotus flower, with its roots in the mud, stem through the water and bloom in the sun, represents enlightenment.
Internal Meaning:
Doodles of flowers indicate a gentle personality, a love of nature, sometimes childlike innocence or wistfulness. They represent the feminine, passive aspect of the universe. Some flowers, with a starlike structure, represent the sun/son. Roses with sharp thorns can indicate betrayal of love.
External Motivation:
Flower doodles might be inspired by flowers in your environment, a gardening show or a floral pattern in your décor. It should also be noted that the complex Mediaeval 'language of flowers' is no longer part of general knowledge, so must be pointed out to the recipient if the message is to be communicated.
