Art Careers: Forensic Artist
Popular TV shows like Law and Order, Numb3rs, CSI and 'Without a Trace' has renewed interest in the career of police forensic artist. Forensic artists, or sketch artists, work with old-fashioned paper and pencil as well as state-of-the-art computer graphics. Forensic artists can be employed in a variety of roles, but often need to interview victims and suspects as part of their job, so need good interpersonal skills as well as art ability. This link has an interesting history of forensic art but be warned that it includes descriptions of crimes which some readers may find disturbing. Also worth a read is this page detailing duties of the forensic artist - the writer also lists training courses they've undertaken. If you're interested in police work as well as using your creative skills, why not ask your careers advisor or local job center about your suitablity for a career in forensic art?
