I buy way too many magazines. I love bite-size information, new and interesting articles, and the fact that I can read them outdoors at morning tea time. Sure, you can find a lot of similar information online, but I already work and study online, so for relaxation I prefer a printed page. For pure drawing content, my favorite is American Artist - Drawing, but there are quite a few other magazines with a good proportion of drawing-relevant content too. If you have a theme in your artwork, such as nature or wildlife, magazines and journal articles and images can be a great way to gather ideas and inspiration. Just be sure to only use public domain imagery, purchase stock photography or take your own photographs for specific reference material.

I used to get “The Artist’s Magazine” and really like it, but realized I was only interested in a small number of the articles. I really like their quarterly (I think) issue only on drawing, which I think is the first one you have listed.
Finally, before I moved the last time, I went through them all and with an x-acto knife cut out only the articles I wanted to keep. I reduced my stack to about 10% of what it was. Someday I plan to put those articles in a 3-ring binder. In most cases, the title and issue of the magazine appears at the top of the pages, but where it doesn’t, I was careful to write that information on the page, in case I need to go back for any reason in the future. Also, who knows — I may want to write an article myself someday and quote someone, and I certainly don’t want to plagiarize.
Thanks for all you do, Helen.
