Do you ever look at an artist's work and think, "Wow... I could have done that..."? It's an idea I return to from time to time, and I almost laughed out loud when I found a reference to it in the book I'm reading. It's called "The Authenticity Hoax" by Andrew Potter, and at one point in discussing plagiarism he comments that "every (artist) runs into a situation where she comes across a work that strikes her as so obviously right, and so perfectly constructed, that she feels that she would have done it exactly that way if only she'd thought of it first." I couldn't have said it better!
While I'm taking the comment somewhat out of context, that sentence perfectly expresses how I feel about some artist's work. Every brushstroke, every line makes sense. Their marks - however abstract - have meaning to me, their colours work. For me the connection is in the works of a few Australian artists - some Fred Williams pieces, many Robert Juniper works, and the wonderful drawings of John Wolseley.
So whose are do you click with? Were you pleased to discover a like mind or worried that it made you somehow 'unoriginal'?

art I wish I could make: childrens’!!! gosh. I sometimes get so jealous when I see how free and perfect their doodles are. I just can’t get that free– SO frustrating. I love childrens’ art, they are the best. How do they do it???
I also LOVE Edward Lear’s drawings. The closest thing to freestyle children’s art!
Thomas Burton inspired me the most,..new and old. His used of oblonged linework was a world that only he created. His political views during that era(1940’s) were evident in all his works,…His Mural works was my favorite.I feel he’s near me.His book of works is my favorite..
The Hudson River School artists, particularly Albert Bierstadt are who I would gladly emulate…if I could.
