I was just thinking about having a declutter when Jewlery guide Tammy Powley mentioned her blog on
De-Stash Options. I'd considered selling a few items but most of what I need to de-stash is a collection of oil painting stuff, and I think it would be best gifted to an art student. Hopefully the free supplies might encourage some creative freedom. Generally I'm not into minimalism, but when you find that storage space overtakes your work space, it's time to declutter. I also find that I have a bad habit of putting things down rather than away - hence the in-tray full of brushes, pens and pencils. I think drawing by nature tends not to be a stash-forming habit - unless you're a bit of a sucker for nice paper or sketchbooks. We don't need a mountain of tools and materials.
I agree with Tammy and her readers that selling isn't really worthwhile: maybe I could get a few dollars for those meters of canvas I have, but would it be worth the effort involved? Probably not, and the use that a needy student will get out of it will be far more satisfying. Odd bits of art supplies are probably of limited value to most people, though unused sketchbooks or a box of good pencils will always be welcome.

I am a pack rat, so I have a huge stash. I belong to a local decorative artist chapter, once a year they have a flea market, and it is a good way to clean out your stash. I love the idea of donating to a charity or non-profit. I think donating to the schools is a great idea, but I would check to see if they could utilize the items before donating.
