Learn to Draw Horses
Friday November 9, 2007
This collection of horse drawing resources includes two original step-by-steps that I've drawn with beginners in mind, with simple steps and a printer-friendly version. Draw a horse head in profile using simple shapes to get started.
Draw a standing horse - its easier than you think. Build the structure in stages and learn a handy trick for drawing hooves.

These tips helped me and also taught me new things that I could add to add more detail.
WOW! i cant believe this is true… all my life have been in love with horses and now i can sketch wonderfull drawings of them that actually look reallistic… thank you so much, i appreciate it allot!…thanks again!
Hi Laira, I’m so happy you found this tutorial useful. So far I’ve just got ‘the basics’ - I hope to add some more soon on doing various angles, movement and details of the face. Make sure you take a look at my other lessons on learning to draw from life, and pencil shading, as these principles apply to whatever you draw.
Great tips! I have been practicing horses for a while and they are a challenge! I also am learning to paint them in the Chinese style. One Chinese teacher uses a 3 circle method that is similar to this method. Very good tips! Thanks!
thanks Teresa. The Chinese method would be interesting to see - I went to a workshop once where the artist painted birds, using a huge brush, dipping different sections of it into the ink - then painting them in a single stroke.
hey thanks because i realy stinked at drawing horses so i looked for something off the internet and i found your way how you draw horses and i tryed and my pitcher turned out great so i just want to say thank you for helping me.
it is hard at first but once you get into it it starts to get easier
