What a lovely sketch, Helen. I immediately thought of you when hearing that Rostropovich had left us. It made me cry a bit to learn he’d been buried to the applause of mourners; wasn’t that a fitting tribute? One final standing ovation.
Thanks, Shelley and Pete. I couldn’t think of the right words, so a sketch seemed appropriate. (I’ve modified it a little since you saw it – some improvements but losing some marks too. I’m still trying to master the Wacom tablet, and I wish it were a more accomplished drawing. So your kind comments are appreciated!)
I second Barbara’s “Wow!” What a great tribute. I wondered how drawings would come out using a Wacom tablet. Did you do this in Corel Painter Essentials 3?
I love that huge, raw sound, Ed – such a pure ’string’ sound. Not overprocessed and saccharine like some contemporary cellists.
A Wacom tablet is a gadget that you plug into your computer to draw on. Its pressure-sensitive so you can capture lineweight too. I’ll do an article on it soon, and share some tips that I’ve learned ’so far’.
And yes, I did do this on the tablet, Kiva. I think I’m finally getting better at it. I can’t wait to get my new creative suite.

The loose lines are very musical; the drawing has movement and expression.

Epresses R.’s big sound. I love it! What is a Wacom tablet?
Fantastic, I have never tried my tablet to draw like that. You have a great talent.
