A Fabulous Cartoonist
Tuesday April 17, 2007
While I'm continually telling people that you have to work on your drawing skills if you want to be a great cartoonist, sometimes you can get away with stick figures. Seriously. The important thing is having something to say. This week's featured site, xkcd.com is a brilliant webcomic by science graduate Randall Munroe. It's full of astute and often hilarious commentary on life, love, science, popular culture (or both at the same time), maths and the internet. Among other things. Munroe's style varies from rough sketch to finished print-worthy pieces. The humour various a bit too, but mostly hits the mark, with some acidic wit and the occasional poignant commentary. Great stuff. It doesn't matter that its drawn with stick figures, because it isn't about the art, it's about the idea. Be warned, some of the ideas are rather adult, along with the language.
