An Illustration Sketchblog

Monday July 31, 2006
Bumbling around the blogs this week, I came across this really delightful sketchblog belonging to Rachel em. The pic at left is a detail from her image 'Taxi'. Rachel is a final-year illustration student whose work is a delight to see. I asked about her influences, and was impressed when she mentioned Egon Schiele (a favorite of mine) as well as Winsor McCay, Mucha, Rembrandt, Yoshitaka Amano, and the illustrator Willy Pogany. Her interest in Japanese printmakers is evident in her handling of color and line. Rachel says that she is still experimenting with her style, and though there was a slightly 'familiar' quality to some images, she also displays a quirky originality. I've a feeling it won't be long until we are seeing this talented young artist's work in print.
