Gearing Up for the New Year
Tuesday December 27, 2005
Have you thought about your New Year's Resolutions yet? I have. I'm going to do a sketch every day. Every single day. And now I've told everyone, I have to stick to it. Apparently, telling people helps you stick to a new regime - you feel accountable to them, you'd be embarrassed if you didn't follow through, and you can also get them to nag you (or encourage you!) when needed.
Why a "Sketch a Day"? Because drawing, like other psycho-motor skills, is something that improves with practice. You train your eye, mind and hand to work together. But it doesn't have to be a masterpiece every time - a few minutes quick sketching can be enough. So why don't you dust off your sketchbook, and join in?
Don't have a sketchbook? Here are my Favorite Sketchbooks. But if you don't want to buy one, you can also use any sketch paper or even some plain office or printer paper.
You can also combine your sketching with journalling or even scrapbooking techniques - add collage items or write diary entries in your sketchbook too. Maybe add some Quotes on Drawing.
