Sketches of Prophet Anger Muslims
Tuesday November 8, 2005
The Pakistani newspaper The Daily Times reports that the Organisation of the Islamic Conference has protested against the publication of sketches of the Prophet Muhammad in a Danish newspaper. Islam forbids depictions of the prophet, so Danish muslims - who make up about 3 percent of the Danish population - have been angered by the illustrations. The newspaper, Jyllands Posten, has been forced to hire security guards due to threats to the newspaper.
Kasem Ahmad of the Islamic Faith society told The Age Newspaper that it wasn't simply the portrayal that was the problem, but the ' "satiric and blasphemous" nature of the drawings'.
