Rhode Island
Until November 13, at the Fine Arts Center Gallery, University of Rhode Island, drawing fans can view an exhibition by URI drawing instructor Jeff Bertwell, '13 Views of Fisherville Stream in Snow (After Hokusai). These large pastel drawings form a metaphor for the life's stage, based on the traditional Asian landscape. At the same gallery is 'On the Mark', a contemporary exhibition by various artists that includes drawing and printmaking.
New York
Museum of Modern Art - until January 9 2006 is the final installation of their modern drawing series, 'Drawings from the Modern, 1975 - 2005', which though not exhaustive, covers an extensive selection of major trends in modern drawing, including important figures such as Gerhard Richter and William Kentridge.
Grey Art Gallery - 'Paper Museums - The Reproductive Print in Europe 1500-1800' traces the history of reproductive prints, their role in the creation of the classical canon, and examines issues such as authenticity and originality - still important in this digital age. Interesting aspects of the show include the 'social organization' of the print workshop, and women printmakers.
Fort Worth
Anselm Kiefer: Heaven and Earth at The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth until January 8.Ok, so it isn't drawing. But Anselm Kiefer is my favorite artist ever, and this is the first big show of his work in the USA in, like, forever. If you haven't experienced Kiefer's immense, moving, reasonant work, go see it. Anybody got a spare plane ticket?
