Collectable Drawings
Wednesday July 14, 2004
Alex Marr of the New York Metro writes of Harvey S. Shipley Miller's recent art-collecting spree in the sort of tones usually reserved for sports commentary: "Sometimes I think I’m in a dream sequence,” says Harvey S. Shipley Miller about the yearlong collecting spree that’s made him into the art world’s latest player.
The 'buzz' surrounding Miller isn't unwarranted - how often do you hear of millions of philanthropic dollars being spend on works on paper? His purchases of over 400 artists' drawings - more than 2,200 pieces in all - should be heading to MoMa, provided the gallery will accept the gift as a whole, not breaking up the collection.
