Hard Times for Animators

The New York times article 'Out of the picture' looks at the career ups and downs that animators have been facing in recent years. Since the advent of CGI, and with access to cheaper offshore labor for the labor-intensive tasks, prospects in the industry have become increasingly limited. Training in computer animation seems like the obvious solution, but as writer Lynell George comments, '
Unlike workers in other 'factories', animators are artists; to be asked to learn a new medium, for some, is like asking Monet to ditch the pastels.'
