American Islamic Calligraphy

Sunday November 9, 2003
Mohamed Zakariya converted to Islam about 40 years ago, having been drawn to the faith through study of language and travel. The Indianapolis Star feature It's music for the eyes this week briefly looks at the artist, his life and work. Find out more about Mohamed's technique in the National Library of Medicine's online presentation, with links to video files (rather large). You can also visit the artist's own website for extensive information on history and development of calligraphy, materials and equipment, resources and of course a gallery of his work.

Mohamed Zakariya , Neil Yerman and Karen Gorst are three calligraphers featured in the exhibition 'Writing the Sublime: The Art of Calligraphy in the Religions of Abraham' at The Interfaith Center of New York. The exhibition opens on Wednesday 12 November and continues until January 9th, 2004.
